Management
- Centralised decision-making:
- the president & CEO makes all the decisions
- sometimes also insignificant details
- Wide distance between organisational levels.
- management often has a lunch room of their own
- Strict hierarchy and continuous control.
- The manager is not a nice guy towards his subordinates but he is respected if he takes their part.
- Because of their status a director must be smartly dressed and
avoid public means of transportation.
- Criticizing and sometimes even making a fool of a subordinate seems to be okay.
- Finding someone to blame is more important than correcting the fault.
- Contrary to Finns, Russian people require supervision.
- Using of formal orders (prikaz).
- The Finns are methodical, the Russians are intuitive.
- In management, continuous presence is necessary, visits are not enough.
- International experience and language skills,
own initiative among subordinates and the knowledge of western technology are weak.
